Boro's 23/24 season has now concluded with Michael Carrick and his backroom staff gearing up for an important summer transfer window ahead of a push for promotion.
Unlike last season Boro don't have gaping gaps to fill, and Carrick has stated that the season just gone feels like the 'start' of something as opposed to the end.
So here are 10 players that Boro should be keeping tabs on this summer to help add to their progressing squad:

Alan Browne
Republic Of Ireland's Alan Browne is set to be leaving Preston North End this summer following the expiration of his contract at Deepdale. The midfielder racked up over 400 appearances for Preston and has been one of the first names on their team-sheet for multiple years. With the uncertainty over Hayden Hackney's future amid Premier League interest, midfield is one area Boro should be looking to strengthen, and Browne being out of contract could be something that tempts Boro's recruitment team.
2. Karamoko Dembele
Once dubbed 'the next Lionel Messi' Karamoko has been lighting League One up at Blackpool. The young midfielder has been given his first real run of games at professional football following his loan exit from Champions League bound, Stade Brest, and has managed 21 goals and assists for the Tangerines this campaign. Dembele would provide quality and competition across Boro's attacking midfield and is the type of move that aligns with the clubs transfer policy.
3. Leopold Querfeld
Leopold Querfeld is a towering centre half who plays for Rapid Wein in Austria's first division. The 20 year old is a progressive passer who plays in possession dominant team which may interest Boro, also the fact that football in Austria is also high intensity like the Championship. Leopald's impressive performances earned him a call up to Austria's national team early this year. Boro may already be content with their current centre halves, however should any gaps open up, Querfeld is a man they may look at as good buisness.
4. Skelly Alvero
One of the most freakish profiles in football right now, Skelly Alvero. At 6,8 Alvero is a ball winning midfielder that possess' abnormal technique for his stature. The 22 year old French midfielder has struggled to break into Lyon's first team and was loaned out to German side Werder Bremen in January. Skelly made a couple of cameo's and showcased his ability, scoring against Hoffenheim, before earning his first start, but unfortunately has since been out with injury. With such a high ceiling, the midfielder could be available this summer depending on Lyon's patience and should be one Boro are keeping tabs on.
5. Rubin Colwill
By all accounts Rubin Colwill has had a poor season when it comes to scoring and assisting. However, Boro of all clubs known not to judge a player purely on goals and assist's, look at Morgan Rogers for example. Colwill is one of the best in the Championship when it comes to ball carrying, with 2.61 successful dribbles per 90 minutes and has a very similar profile to Morgan Rogers, it's no surprise Arsenal have been linked with him recently. Despite his 'poor' season, the Welsh International is still adored by Cardiff's fans, however with current manager, Erol Bulut, handing Ruben appearances mainly from the bench, it would be no surprise if the young midfielder wanted to leave. Boro could be an attractive prospect for Colwill and if Boro came in with a fee, The Bluebirds may be forced to accept.
6. Ragnar Ache
Ragnar is a number nine who plays for 1.FC Kaiserslautern in Germany's second division. The German striker is having the best season of his career, scoring 17 goals in 27 games for a side which is flirting with relegation. At 25 years old there is still room for improvement and should be one that Boro are all over, either if his club stays up or not. Ragnar has a similar profile to Latte Lath, one which Michael Carrick clearly prefers over the likes of Josh Coburn. Electrifying pace, bullish and clinical would mean he would most likely upset a lot of Championship defences.
7. Ben Johnson
Johnson is set to leave West Ham this summer at the expiration of his contract and would be a real coup for anyone at this level. Ben never asserted himself as a regular starter for The Hammers, but has a wealth of Premiership and European experience with over 100 appearances for the club. At 24 years old, Johnson still has so much time to improve and is already a very well rounded right back with great ability at his feet. He is a reported target for Ipswich and Leeds United but Boro would still certainly be an attractive move for the Englishmen, who would provide competition for the right back spot.
8. Ivan Smolcic
Should Boro look at signing a low risk right back, then Ivan Smolcic would be a decent shout. The 23 year old is a right back for Croatian outfit Rijeka and has been one of their standout performers this season. Smolcic is a modern full back who can do a bit of everything. He averages 0.87 shots per game, 1.29 chances created per game and has a respectable 33.3% crossing accuracy. He also wins the majority of his Aerial duels and tackles. He scored in the Europa Conference League against Lille and looks to be improving every season. He could be a neat bit of business for Boro if they're wanting good competition for cheap at right back.
9. Salvatore Esposito
Salvatore Esposito simply has to be on Middlesbrough's radar this summer. The 23 year old could be the perfect Hayden Hackney replacement. The midfielder plays for Spezia in Italy's second division, and is by far their best player. Spezia currently sit one point off the relegation play off's and its a mystery as to how Salvatore isn't playing at a higher level. The midfielder dictates the tempo of games and is very press-resistant, perfect for Carrick's system. The Italian can do everything, he generates 2 chances per game, wins 3.6 fouls per game and has a brilliant passing accuracy. He get's stuck in too, winning 7 duels per game at a 70% tackling success rate. Salvatore reads the game brilliantly and his ability earned him an Italy call up last season when Spezia were in the first division, where he didn't look out of place at all. Even if Boro hold on to Hackney this summer, they should still test the waters for this under the radar gem.
10. Cameron Archer
Here me out on this one Boro fans. Archer looks set to return to Aston Villa this summer according to reports, with Sheffield United striking a very obscure deal for Cameron back in the summer. Archer's confidence is evidently shot at The Blades right now and you can only think his stock has depleted over the last few months. Boro may test their luck and see if they can strike a loan deal with an obligation to buy should certain goals be met, or alternatively look at utilizing some of Morgan Rogers' add on fees/clauses to make a deal more achievable for themselves. Never say never.
